GoGobrowse is a free chromium web browser that allows 2 users to browse the web together while audio chatting.

Note: this is currently a proof of concept. there are known issues such as Netflix and other drm required apps not playing content.

Peer To Peer

GoGobrowse is built using webrtc. No url data or audio data is sent to the GoGobrowse server. The server is used only for initial signaling between peers.

How it works

The “Leader” user creates a room by clicking the “New” button. This generates a unique Room id. This user can now share the unique room id with a friend. The “Guest” user joins the room by pasting the room id into the relevant text field and clicking the “Join” button.

When the Leader changes their url, the Guest’s browser is sent to that url. The inverse is not true. The Guest can click around as they please. The Leader can bring the guest back by simply refreshing.

Watching YouTube with a friend.
Browsing web articles and web forums with a friend.
Editing a google doc with a friend.

What inspired this idea

I believe the next iteration of the web is social web browsing. Real-time social interaction while browsing the web feels truly “social”. While social media experiences are still a one person experience, real time web browsing invites users to experience the web together.

In some sense this is what a real “metaverse” would be. The “metaverse” should be a way to consume internet content in real time with friends. That can be extrapolated to 3D, but it should be an enjoyable experience in 2D. And essentially, it should start with 2D.

GoGobrowse is a free app, that is a small proof of concept of this larger vision.
